Major duties: reviews intake assessment tools and other collateral information and utilization of standardized criteria to determine inmate eligibility for services and appropriate course of treatment in the least restrictive environment; conducts ASAM (American Society Addictive Medicine) assessments through interviews with the inmate, personal observations, consultations, and collateral information; provides crisis intervention to include appropriate behavioral and environmental controls for inmates who may be aggressive, assaultive or at risk of self-harm; implements suicide monitoring procedures according to established policies; evaluates inmates placed in Disciplinary Segregation Unit (DSU) within 24 hours and makes recommendations to the hearings officer regarding modified sanctions; monitors the progress of assigned inmates; assesses and reassesses the inmate's level of functioning, medication compliance and side effects, and evaluates level of assistance needed; refers for medication evaluation, medical services, psychosocial activity, or groups; develops a bio-psycho-social based treatment plan for assigned mentally ill inmates to address mental illness, substance abuse, and criminality; collaborates with inmate to determine goals and appropriate interventions; coordinates and integrates services with other treatment staff; monitors inmate progress and compliance with treatment activities; provides individual counseling and group skills-training programs that utilizes a broad range of therapeutic interventions required to effectively address treatment plan goals; reviews inmate charts, participates in treatment team discussions, and makes case presentations; consults with institution release counselor to identify inmate needs at release that may include assistance with completion of financial applications for medical benefits, social security applications, follow-up mental health appointments, and structured community placements; coordinates reach-in visits with outside agencies involved in community supervision as necessary; completes written documentation of contact with inmates according to established procedure and ensures information is available to other members of the treatment team; completes timely responses to inmate communications based on institution policy; completes required consents for treatment and informs inmates of confidentiality policies, state and federal laws; and attends staff, committee and other scheduled meetings to discuss and provide input concerning behavior plans and other critical inmate needs; attends and participates in in-service training, workshops, seminars, and continuing education programs to enhance knowledge, skills and abilities related to job performance; presents in-service training to other staff; provides clinical supervision of student interns as assigned.
