SummitRidge is committed to continuity of care and does not utilize agency staff, instead we maintain a fully trained PRN pool as needed.   Join a fast-paced team as a Mental Health Technician.  Carry out a variety of direct and indirect nursing patient care activities and tasks which support the maintenance of the therapeutic milieu and which meet the patient’s needs for safety and comfort.   Requirements Minimum Qualifications: -         BS or BA degree in psychology,  social work or related field with one year inpatient experience in mental health -          OR -         Three  (3) years experience in  mental health care/social service may be substituted for or considered in lieu of degree. -         Skilled in effective verbal and written communications, interviewing, and counseling Position Tasks:          1.      Assists with admission of patients to the unit. 2.      Initiates the admission flow sheet and presents it to the Registered Nurse. 3.      Searches patient belongings upon admission and collects those items of potential self-harm per unit policy. 4.      Orients patient to unit environment as appropriate to patient’s condition. 5.      Renders quality patient care as evidenced by proficient completion of:   -Taking and recording vital signs.    Measuring and recording intake and output.           & ;nbs p;           & amp; nbsp;          & ;nbs p;           & amp; nbsp;          & ;nbs p;           & amp; nbsp;          & ;nbs p;           & amp; nbsp;          & ;nbs p;            -Keeping information boards current regarding patient observation levels, lithium levels, lab tests, etc. Must be able to demonstrate sound judgment, maturity, and the ability to act with objectivity and empathy in crises.

This is a secured unit and staff works 8 hour shifts (12 hour shifts on weekends). Employees will work every 3rd weekend and 1 major and 2 minor holidays a year. Our other unit is a 16 bed geriatric unit .The Mental Health Tech is responsible for:1. Attends to the physical appearance of the patients; washed hair, shaves patients, nail care and oral care2. Completes HS care including back rub, oral hygiene and denture care, pericare and toileting3. Provides pressure sore prevention as directed including the use of proper bed surface, skin care products, protective devices (heel and elbow pads)4. Turns and positions patients a minimum of every two hours unless specified otherwise5. Uses body alignment devices appropriately; splints, anti-contracture devices6. Provides active and passive ROM7. Takes patients to Day Room for meals, assists with feeding as directed8. Observes, measures and records all intake and output including bowel movements, drains, foley, NG tube etc.9. Performs blood glucose quality control test and documents results10. Collect and labels specimens according to hospital policy11. Takes vital signs as assigned and records on the graphic record. Informs nurse of deviations from patients usual value within 15 minutes. Takes orthostatic Blood Pressures as assigned12. Applies aqua K-pad, anti-embolic hose, ice packs, non-sterile moist heat, sequential hose as directed13. Reports unusual or escalating patient behavior to charge nurse immediately14.
