Atlanta Medical Center has 2 Behavioral Health Units. 6East is a 26 bed unit that typically sees dual diagnosed patients. This is a secured unit and staff works 8 hour shifts (12 hour shifts on weekends). Employees will work every 3rd weekend and 1 major and 2 minor holidays a year. Our other unit is a 16 bed geriatric unit . The Mental Health Tech is responsible for: 1. Attends to the physical appearance of the patients; washed hair, shaves patients, nail care and oral care 2. Completes HS care including back rub, oral hygiene and denture care, pericare and toileting 3. Provides pressure sore prevention as directed including the use of proper bed surface, skin care products, protective devices (heel and elbow pads) 4. Turns and positions patients a minimum of every two hours unless specified otherwise 5. Uses body alignment devices appropriately; splints, anti-contracture devices 6. Provides active and passive ROM 7. Takes patients to Day Room for meals, assists with feeding as directed 8. Observes, measures and records all intake and output including bowel movements, drains, foley, NG tube etc. 9. Performs blood glucose quality control test and documents results 10. Collect and labels specimens according to hospital policy 11. Takes vital signs as assigned and records on the graphic record. Informs nurse of deviations from patient's usual value within 15 minutes. Takes orthostatic Blood Pressures as assigned 12. Applies aqua K-pad, anti-embolic hose, ice packs, non-sterile moist heat, sequential hose as directed 13. Reports unusual or escalating patient behavior to charge nurse immediately 14.
