The psychiatrist will practice in the outpatient mental health clinic setting at the Alexandria, LA Mental Hygiene Clinic.  The Psychiatrist provides psychiatric/substance abuse treatment to adults in the area of the Psychiatrist clinical specialization.  Care includes the following:  initiating and adjusting therapeutic regimens and prescribing medications/supplies in accordance with VA policy, VA Formulary, state regulations and scope of practice.   The Psychiatrist works collaboratively with other interdisciplinary team members in providing quality care, patient education, and assisting patients in acute and chronic rehabilitation techniques.  The Psychiatrist serves on appropriate/assigned committees and assists in the development, evaluation and communication of policies and standards in his/her field.  The staff psychiatrist will be required to provide on-site and telephonic consultations for patients requiring psychiatric care as referred by peer staff, Primary Care physicians and all Health Care Lines.  The Psychiatrist is required to document all reports and patient interventions in the patient's medical record according to recoding standards.  Quality improvement activities will be monitored to ensure compliance with all applicable JCAHO and Medical Center standards.  This individual will participate in other activities and programs beneficial to the Medical Center and/or CBOC, including committees, task forces and investigations.
