What sets us apart is our critical mass of researchers whose focus is diabetes and our one-of-a-kind resources that facilitate rapid scientific progress.     The Research Assistant in Joslin’s section on Behavioral & Mental Health Research provides assistance on clinical research projects investigating the interaction between both type 1 and type 2 diabetes and the brain. Our team examines biological mechanisms underlying the relationship of diabetes self-management to brain structure and function, and the effects of diabetes on aging, Alzheimer’s disease. Multiple neuroimaging techniques are used  to investigate these core questions.     The Research Assistant is responsible for coordinating the study, learning with instruction to process brain images using multiple  software packages, assisting with data entry and analysis, administering neuropsychological tests, performing routine lab work involving human blood samples, recruiting patients from the Joslin Diabetes Center and from the community served by Joslin, and scheduling patient screening and data collection visits. The candidate will also have the opportunity to help with preparation of oral and written research reports. Participates in research team meetings.     Qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree with a major in the behavioral or biological sciences. Research experience involving human subjects. Experience with computer data entry and word processing. Basic course in human or non-human primate neuroanatomy helpful. Experience with neuroimaging data analysis software (SPM or Brain Voyager, FSL, Freesurfer) a plus.
