Job Description

RELOCATION BONUS AVAILABLE (up to $5,000) - This is not a remote position.

Greenbrier Academy for Girls is located in historical Pence Springs, WV. Must be willing to relocate to southern West Virginia (within 60 miles of Pence Springs, WV, 24962).

Greenbrier Academy has an opening for an energetic & creative licensed therapist/counselor who loves working with teenage girls and their families. Your role will be more significant than just counseling students in your office. Our clinical department provides a robust support system through weekly consultation, team meetings, & a supportive environment.

Students typically come to us with some of the following: anxiety, depression, body dysmorphia, trauma, attachment disorder, & family dysfunction. Your caseload would involve leading a family unit, 6 to 8 students, where responsibilities are shared among the treatment team, including a teacher/academic advisor & our residential mentor staff.

While at Greenbrier Academy, our students, ages 14-18, are surrounded by 140 acres of woodland, dogs & cats from our animal program, horses in our stables & multiple buildings dedicated to all aspects of her well-being. This serene, natural setting provides a safe refuge from the calamity of modern teenage life & allows healing without distraction.

5 Key principles of our therapeutic model  (by Dr. Brent Slife)

  • Relationality has an implied morality: we should protect & enhance virtuous relationships.
  • The goal of the relational therapist is to help clients experience productive conflict that leads to greater intimacy and love, despite the seeming messiness of such interactions.
  • Theory is not irrelevant, but theory is not primary; the concrete context of lived practice is the more real and fundamental. Therapy & therapy training is learned best by supervised doing, not by theory
  • Therapists must look beyond merely serving their clients‘ individual satisfactions to serving their clients‘ relationships.
  • By too rigidly adhering to abstractions—diagnoses, techniques, therapeutic principles— we run the risk of becoming disengaged from the particulars of our relationships because we relate to the abstractions rather than the people themselves. Greater closeness & intimacy become possible when we see people as they are, rather than as our conceptions of them say they are.

We are looking for a licensed therapist with training &/or certification in trauma-focused interventions such as DBT, CBT, EMDR, Brainspotting, NLP, Art Therapy, Yoga, and Psychodrama.

Our resources include,

  • neurofeedback
  • renowned equine-assisted therapy
