Mental Health Counselor

Position Summary:
The Hotchkiss School seeks an independently licensed mental health counselor starting August 2025. This is a full-time 9-month position, reporting to the Director of Counseling. The counselor will hold a caseload of students, participate in regular on-call rotation for off-hour emergencies in a 24/7 Health Center, and be available to consult with families and colleagues as needed. On-call responsibilities include being reachable and available within a 1-hour radius.

As a member of the counseling team, the position works collaboratively with Health Center mental health counselors, a consulting psychiatrist, and health center staff. Counseling responsibilities include providing individual and group counseling to students, communicating with parents, faculty members, outside providers, and performing effective case management services and case coordination. Excellent documentation is required in our electronic medical record.

Qualifications:
A master's degree in clinical social work preferred or an advanced degree in clinical or counseling psychology with a specialization in adolescent population, and experience that supports culturally responsive frameworks and treatment modalities. The successful candidate must have demonstrated expertise in cultural and identity-based experiences and will have experience working with adolescents and families, with preference given to applicants with five or more years of clinical experience and familiarity with evidence-based strategies in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and experience with DBT. In addition, the candidate must have:

• experience with trauma-informed care
• demonstrated comfort and confidence in working with adolescents and their families; ability to effectively engage and build rapport with adolescents and their families.
• extensive knowledge of adolescent development and mental health issues
• excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• ability to collaborate and work in a team environment
• exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
• strong knowledge of the ethical and legal considerations related to counseling practices
• commitment to the schools mission, values, and vision

The candidate will be required to have or obtain CT licensure within twelve months of working in Connecticut.

Compensation:
Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience and education level.
