Are you passionate about helping and supporting teens in school and wanting a school-based work schedule? The tele-mental health clinician has the unique opportunity to develop positive relationships with students in rural schools and provide therapeutic services to promote students mental wellness. The job of tele-mental health clinician is done for the purpose of will providing individual sessions via a HIPAA compliant video platform to support students impacted by mental health issues and trauma and providing leadership assistance to school districts in the development of comprehensive programs in mental health support, therapy, and case management. This position is part of a unique team of job alike peers who participate in professional growth and network with one another.
This position will serve Northport, Odessa, Wilbur-Creston, Waterville, and Grand Coulee school districts. The work location is at NEWESD 101s main building.
This position is 8 hours per day, Monday-Friday, for 210 days following the typical school schedule, starting August 2025. The clinician will also be expected to perform 2-3 on-site visits per year with each participating school district.
- Aligns work with NEWESD 101 and participating school districts for the purpose of developing and implementing a delivery system for mental health support services to students in participating schools/districts.
- Collaborates with a variety of groups and/or individuals (e.g. superintendents, principals, teachers, counselors, agency representatives) for the purpose of increasing student awareness/recognition of communication and problem-solving skills and ultimately improving student performance.
- Collaborates with a variety of groups and/or individuals (e.g. superintendents, principals, teachers, counselors, agency representatives) for the purpose of collecting and analyzing current data to identify school/system needs and target students who would benefit from services.
- Understands school culture and climate and is able to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and administrators.
- Manages a caseload within a school setting and prioritizes work based on student needs in multiple schools.
- Refers students to outside resources in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Communicates with students, families, school staff, and community members in a culturally competent manner.
- Possesses knowledge of laws and can effectively respond to issues around child abuse or neglect, drug/alcohol abuse, and suicide.
- Conducts screenings, interventions, and referrals (e.g. substance abuse, suicide, depression, anxiety, etc.) for the purpose of identifying and addressing mental health issues and/or determining need for additional services and/or referral.
- Consults with families, staff, and community agency personnel for the purpose of developing intervention goals and coordinating service plans.
- Maintains individual student records and files for the purpose of being in compliance with state law.
- Provides follow-up and aftercare to students who have been referred to outside services for the purpose of assisting in transition and functioning.
- Possesses knowledge of using electronic meeting platforms, such as Zoom.

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
- applying assessment instruments,
- operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications such as zoom for the purposes of providing therapy,
- planning and managing projects, and
- preparing and maintaining accurate records/case management via an electronic health record system.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios, and review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, speak persuasively to implement desired actions, facilitate group discussions, and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes :
- familiarity with the DSM V, especially children and adolescent specific disorders,
- generally accepted mental health assessment, intervention, treatment, and recovery process for adolescents and families,
- physical and emotional development of adolescents,
- mental health issues,
- intervention strategies, and
- pertinent codes, policies, regulations, and laws.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and events, gather, collate, and classify data, and use basic job related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances, work with data utilizing defined but different processes, and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and groups and work with a variety of data. In working with others, problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines. Responsibility
Responsibilities include working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods, leading, guiding, and directing others within the department, and tracking budget expenditures. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the agencys services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. The job is performed under a generally hazard free environment.
Experience
Job-related experience working in mental health and/or substance use required.
Job-related experience working in a school setting preferred.Job-related experience with using telehealth as a modality for providing mental health therapy preferred.
Education
Masters degree in mental health counseling or related field required.
Certificates & Licenses
Mental Health licensure in the State of Washington required.
Valid drivers license, required auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
Clearances
