Part-Time Mental Health Counselor

This part-time, temporary mental health counseling role supports undergraduate students in a diverse, health-focused campus. The individual in this position provides general counseling services to students at University of Minnesota Rochester. Responsibilities include intakes, individual counseling, crisis intervention, and documentation of all clinical contacts. The counselor may also act as an advocate or liaison between the students and other campus staff and faculty, as well as community providers, and parents. This is a direct-service, part-time, non-benefit eligible position that reports to the Director of Counseling & Health Services.

This position works in-person in Rochester, MN. This role is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship.

Key Responsibility Areas:

  • Provide intake assessments, individual counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention, and document all clinical contacts.
  • See clients for ongoing individual counseling within a flexible, but generally short-term model.
  • Conduct intake assessments and refer to appropriate resources as needed.
  • Consult as necessary with faculty and staff regarding student mental health issues.
  • Operate as part of a multidisciplinary team that supports undergraduate students.
  • Work with UMRas Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Life, Director of Counseling & Health Services, Student Success Coaches, Disability Resources Coordinator, other mental health counselors, and other campus colleagues.

This position description is not intended to be all inclusive. Employees may perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Work Location
This role is intended to provide in-person counseling services, generally one day per week and not to exceed 14 hours per week.

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree plus at least 6 years of experience, or an advanced degree plus at least 4 years of experience, or a terminal degree plus at least 1 year of experience.
  • Social Worker licensure: Professional health care certification, registration, or state licensure is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Generalist skills in working with depression, anxiety, and family of origin issues
  • Experience with eating disorders and substance abuse
  • Previous college counseling experience
