Scope of Care:
Responsible for providing psychiatric care, including, but not limited to:
- Outpatient: Evaluation of new and returning outpatients as assigned for CAVHCS.
- Patient care: Approximately 10-20 outpatients per day, per location 12 hour allotted for follow-up and 1 hour for new patients during regular work week schedule.
- Inpatient: Evaluation of 10-15 patients assigned to the High Intensity Psychiatric Unit (HIPU) or the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MHRRTP). Patient care: approximately 10-15 inpatients per day. 1 hour allotted for admissions, treatment planning, and/or discharge summaries during regular work week schedule. Rounding for patients assigned is approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour.
- Patient medical history and physical exams appropriate to the care setting and documented in accordance with CAVHCS Medical Staff Bylaws.
- Preventive health
- Refers patient to other specialty care as required
- Prescribing Medications: Be responsible for prescribing medications as needed and shall be required to utilize the VA formulary. Will be required to have DEA License number for prescribing Class II and Class III controlled substances. Medication reconciliation shall be completed during each patient encounter in the Clinic
- Order labs, x-rays and other pertinent tests
- Initial screening of patients to determine eligibility
- Furnish technical and/or professional support for resident and physicians employed by the VA
- Responsible for coordination, evaluation, treatment, and overall medical management for eligible Veterans evaluated and treated within the clinic. Appropriate referral transfer of the Veteran shall be arranged for care that cannot be delivered in CAVHCS clinical setting
- Discharge education: Physician shall provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all clinical patients
- Full and unrestricted MD license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia)
- Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN)
- Sccessful completion of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited residency, and an appropriate fellowship if subspecialty care is provided
- Current BLS and ACLS Certifications
- Have or obtain a National Provider Identifier (NPI)
- Current DEA Certification
