Art Therapist – Help Heal Through Creativity at Brook Lane

Join a powerhouse therapeutic team at Brook Lane—Western Maryland’s largest non-profit mental health system. As an Art Therapist, your creative approach will support healing across two pivotal programs: the acute Inpatient unit (intensive, 24-hour care) and the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) (structured day treatment allowing patients to return home).

What Makes This Role Special?

Inpatient Environment

  • Critical, life-saving work: Provide art therapy in a setting designed for urgent stabilization—patients may include individuals experiencing crisis-level symptoms, suicidal or impulsive behaviors, or needing emergency interventions.
  • Intensive collaboration: Work within a multi-disciplinary team offering round-the-clock care in age-appropriate units for children, adolescents, and adults.
  • Healing through structure: Support recovery through individualized treatment planning, group and family sessions, education, and emotional skill-building—art therapy can be a vital bridge.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

  • Flexible, impactful care: Facilitate day-treatment experiences for individuals (both children and adults) with symptoms like anxiety, depression, self-injury, and social withdrawal—without requiring overnight hospitalization.
  • Short-term, high-impact sessions: Typically spanning 1–2 weeks, PHP allows patients to receive structured therapeutic support and return home each evening.
  • Personalized and holistic: Engage through art alongside individual, group, and family therapy, plus education on wellness, social skills, coping strategies, and more.

Why Brook Lane?

  • Meaningful mission: Be part of a continuum of care that includes intensive inpatient and compassionate day treatment services, all under one roof.
  • Collaborative culture: Work alongside seasoned professionals—including psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, therapists, and educational specialists—committed to patient-centered outcomes.
  • Community-centered impact: Brook Lane serves diverse age groups within a supportive, non-profit ethos—help drive emotional and behavioral well-being across the MidAtlantic region.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead daily art therapy sessions tailored to patient needs in both Inpatient and PHP settings.
  • Join treatment planning meetings and collaborate on goal-driven therapeutic outcomes.
  • Document within Electronic Health Records with precision and timeliness.
  • Participate in case reviews, team discussions, and ongoing training.
  • Adhere to all confidentiality, safety, and mandated reporting guidelines.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Education: Master’s degree in Art Therapy (AATA-accredited).
  • License: Maryland LCPAT (Licensed Clinical Professional Art Therapist).
  • Strengths: Excellent communication, adaptability, and a collaborative spirit.
  • Experience: Skilled in working with diverse age groups—children, adolescents, and adults—across high-intensity care environments.
  • Tech proficiency: Comfortable navigating Electronic Health Records.

Physical/Work Requirements

  • Split between bedside, group spaces, and office.
  • On-site daily presence required for both inpatient and PHP settings.
