Nurse Manager Behavioral Health (Psychiatric Unit)

Job Summary:
The Nurse Manager Behavioral Health is responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and management of a psychiatric inpatient unit. This role ensures high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and effective operational performance in collaboration with the Director of Nursing. The position also focuses on staff supervision, performance improvement, and maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage daily operations of the Behavioral Health / Psychiatric unit
Supervise and coordinate multidisciplinary clinical staff
Ensure compliance with NYSDOH, OMH, DOH, DOHMH, JCAHO and other regulatory bodies
Lead performance improvement and quality assurance initiatives
Monitor admissions, discharges, and discharge planning processes
Collect and analyze clinical and operational data for reporting and audits
Maintain staffing, budgeting, supply, and inventory management
Ensure adherence to nursing standards, ethics, and hospital policies
Provide 24/7 operational leadership coverage as required
Support staff development, training, and continuing education
Drive implementation of best practices and patient care improvements
Participate in HCAPS and patient experience improvement initiatives
Required Skills & Experience:
Minimum 5 years of RN experience
Minimum 5 years of psychiatric/behavioral health clinical experience
At least 2 years in a nursing leadership/management role
Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance and hospital standards
Experience in CQI, Root Cause Analysis, and performance improvement
Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
Experience working with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
Education & Certifications:
BSN required (MSN preferred)
Active New York State RN License
