Peer Support Specialist

The Peer Support Specialist (PSS) will be responsible for offering emotional and social support to individuals who are struggling with mental health challenges or substance use disorders of the Georgia THRIVe Prevention (GTP) initiative, which is a preventative program designed to support pregnant and parenting individuals, including fathers and caregivers, who exhibit signs or symptoms of mental, emotional, behavioral, or substance use disorders.

• Provide one-on-one peer support and mentoring to individuals navigating mental health and/or substance use recovery
• Facilitate peer-led support groups and community events that promote empowerment, wellness, and connection
• Share personal experiences to model healthy coping skills, recovery strategies, and hope
• Assist individuals in identifying goals, accessing resources, and building natural support networks
• Advocate for client needs and rights within the mental health system and in the community
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of interactions and services provided
• Uphold ethical boundaries and confidentiality in accordance with agency policies and applicable laws

• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum of two (2) years experience in public health, social services, or related field
• Completion of all required training (if required by state or agency)
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to maintain empathy, respect, and professionalism in diverse settings
• Knowledge of recovery principles, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction approaches is a plus

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to applicants who in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications also possess the following:

• Bachelors degree
• Experience working with community and faith-based organizations
• Experience working in substance abuse and prevention
• Bilingual or multilingual abilities
