POSITION SUMMARY INFORMATION: DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

Position Overview : In this role, you will provide advanced psychiatric and behavioral healthcare services to residents within the detention facility while assessing, diagnosing, treating, and monitoring mental health conditions in accordance with government detention standards, clinical protocols, and healthcare regulations. You will work collaboratively with physicians, behavioral health providers, nurses, detention staff, and healthcare leadership to support resident mental wellness, crisis intervention, medication management, and continuity of care within a secure detention healthcare environment. This position requires strong clinical expertise, sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to manage complex behavioral health concerns while maintaining confidentiality and high standards of patient care.

Responsibilities :

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, mental health assessments, behavioral screenings, and diagnostic reviews for residents presenting with emotional, psychological, or behavioral health concerns.
  • Diagnose and treat mental health conditions while developing individualized treatment plans, behavioral interventions, and continuity of care strategies based on clinical findings and resident needs.
  • Prescribe, monitor, and manage psychiatric medications while evaluating treatment effectiveness, medication compliance, side effects, and potential drug interactions.
  • Provide crisis intervention services and respond to psychiatric emergencies, suicide prevention concerns, self-harm incidents, and resident behavioral health crises within the detention facility.
  • Coordinate behavioral healthcare services with physicians, nurses, behavioral health technicians, social workers, detention personnel, and outside healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Monitor resident mental health conditions and document treatment progress, clinical observations, medication changes, and behavioral health recommendations accurately and thoroughly.
  • Maintain accurate psychiatric records, clinical documentation, treatment notes, medication records, and healthcare reports in compliance with HIPAA requirements and facility standards.
  • Participate in intake screenings, behavioral health evaluations, chronic mental health management activities, and multidisciplinary treatment planning meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with government detention standards, behavioral healthcare regulations, infection prevention procedures, and facility operational policies related to mental health services.
  • Support audits, inspections, accreditation reviews, quality improvement initiatives, and compliance assessments related to psychiatric and behavioral healthcare operations.
  • Provide clinical guidance and consultation to healthcare personnel regarding resident mental health concerns, behavioral observations, and psychiatric treatment needs.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and leadership while supporting safe and effective behavioral healthcare operations within the detention facility.

Qualifications :

  • Must possess an Arizona Nurse Practitioner license.
  • Must possess a valid CPR/BLS certification.
  • Must possess one (1) year of experience as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
  • Must be able to provide proof of citizenship or legal US work authorization.
  • If prior active-duty military, must provide copies of DD214(s) showing discharge condition.
  • Must consent to fingerprinting.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Clean criminal record and ability to pass a comprehensive background check and security screening.
  • Ability to pass a preemployment medical assessment and drug screening.
  • Excellent communication, observation, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and in high-stress situations.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Work Environment :

Employees may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.

Physical Requirements :

Employees may be required to remain in a stationary position, stand, push, pull, climb, kneel, crawl, balance, squat, bend, and reach. Employees may be also required to use gear to move items around, including, but not limited to, carts and dollies. Employees may also be occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds.
