Job Description

General Scope of Duties

This is a clinical position that requires psychological diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of student patients. Provides training and clinical supervision for Psychology and Social Work training programs. Provides consultative, crisis, on-call and outreach services to the campus community. Will have a general expert knowledge of mental health and psychological functioning. Will have experience with, and proficiency in, providing counseling that is an affirmative, sex-positive, culturally sensitive approach consistent with risk reduction principle. Will have experience in counseling that promotes self-determination and addresses issues of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and the intersection of these aspects of identities with other categories such as race, class, and religion, and physical functioning. The counselor will provide targeted outreach efforts and psychoeducational programming to the general student population..

General Duties and Responsibilities

1. Perform psychological assessments, on-going treatment and clinical consultation, as required.

2. Perform general and specialized clinical and outreach services in an affirmative, sex-positive, culturally sensitive approach consistent with risk reduction principles, and that promotes self-determination.

3. Ensure that documentation and productivity meet standards set in Student Counseling Services policy and procedure.

4. Provide training and supervision to clinical practicum students as needed.

5. Remain current in literature and treatment developments in the mental health field, especially college student mental health, identity-focused issues and recovery.

6. Receive professional development as required to maintain license.

7. Participate in the development and updating of department policies and procedures that may affect students.

8. Perform administrative tasks that contribute to the functioning of the Student Counseling Services.

9. Participate in on-call rotation for emergency and crisis situations that pertain to students and campus life.

10. Collaborate with the Identity-focused Counselor to offer specific expertise regarding LGBTQIA+ identity issues to various components of the college community.

11. Adhere to the ethical codes of conduct appropriate to professional bodies such as the APA and other professional organizations.

12. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff.

13. Perform departmental research, provide reports, as needed.

14. Work after hours and on breaks, as needed.

15. Travel as necessary to meet the requirements of the position.

16. Other duties as assigned.

Education and Skills

1. Doctoral degree in clinical/counseling psychology (Ph.D./ Psy.D), APA-approved program and internship.

2. 2-3 years of clinical experience; experience in college mental health preferred.

3. Licensed to practice (or license-eligible) as a psychologist in the state of Connecticut; maintain licensure.

4. High integrity needed to handle confidential information.

5. Knowledge, training and experience in serving diverse clinical populations.

6. Knowledge, training and experience in serving traditionally underserved populations, including indigenous, LGBTQIA+, international, religious and disabled students.

7. Experience in providing clinical supervision and training within practicum student training program.

8. Well-organized, able to work under pressure and as a member of a team.

9. Ability to interact well with a variety of people from all aspects of the college and community.

10. Possesses excellent presentation skills and social skills.
