SUMMARY

To provide psychological and psychoeducational services to students, parents, and school staff; tailor their services to the particular needs of each student and each situation; provide leadership, expertise and direction to positively affect the educational outcome of students in need.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This position classification performs decisions analyses processes and makes decisions of considerable consequence, requiring the application and interpretation of data, facts, procedures, and policies. The incumbents meet frequently with school administrators, teachers, other staff, and parents to communicate information, data, and alterative problem solutions. This is a sedentary position classification and performs light work involving sitting a portion of the time, but does require walking and standing for extended periods. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, and ability to provide oral information and direction, and the handling and working with instructional and assessment materials and objects.

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
  • Present a positive image of the school to parents, and convey to them the school’s genuine concern with the education, growth, and development of each student.
  • Seek to establish friendly and cooperative partnerships between home and school.
  • Work to develop a positive public relationship between the school district and the community.
  • Carry out assignments in a timely manner without undue checking.
  • React positively to directives.
  • Have a willingness to cooperate with the superintendent, district administrators, principals, and staff.
  • Maintain the confidentiality, both verbally and in written form, of each student’s educational record.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, peers, and adults.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Adhere to Board of Education Policies and Procedures.
  • Adhere to the Nine Performance Standards for evaluation purposes.
  • Maintain a professional appearance.
  • Maintain a regular punctual attendance.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION (preferred)

Experience:

Completed an internship that includes at least 50% of time in the school setting.

Education:

Hold a Master’s degree or higher, and the required Kentucky certificate for the assigned position.
