Mental Health Counselor Illinois College - Jacksonville, IL 62650 Apply Overview Salary Range $43,000.00 - $47,000.00 Salary/month Level Experienced Position Type Full Time Apply Description The Mental Health Counselor provides direct clinical mental health counseling services to students within the campus health center. This role supports student emotional wellbeing, academic success, and personal development through counseling, crisis intervention, outreach programming, and collaboration with campus partners. The counselor works with a diverse student population and contributes to creating an inclusive, supportive campus environment. Essential Functions: The following list of duties is meant to be representative of the work performed in this position. Provide clinical mental health counseling services to students experiencing emotional, psychological, academic, or social challenges. Conduct mental health assessments and develop appropriate treatment plans. Provide crisis intervention for students experiencing acute psychological distress, including risk assessments for self-harm, suicide, and harm to others. Maintain accurate, confidential clinical documentation in compliance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards. Consult and collaborate with faculty, staff, parents, and community providers when appropriate and in compliance with confidentiality regulations. Develop and facilitate wellness programming including workshops, outreach programs, and psychoeducational presentations on mental health-related topics Provide referrals on-campus resources and to off-campus mental health or medical providers when needed. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical supervision, as required. Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive counseling practices. Stay current with best practices, ethical standards, and developments in college mental health. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree in counseling, social work, psychology, human development, or related field, required Current licensure in the State of Illinois at the clinical level, or eligibility for licensure after two years of supervised practice (e.g., LPC, LCPC, LSW, LCSW, LMFT), required Intercultural competency; ability to work effectively with students from diverse cultural and social backgrounds and a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that is welcoming and supportive of students regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, and other identities, required Demonstrated ability to assess and manage mental health crises.
