Job Summary

The Clinical Counselor position provides a full range of clinical services including individual, group, and couples counseling, assessment, outreach, consultation, supervision, training, and crisis intervention services. Possession of strong clinical skills and the ability to manage a full client caseload are required, as well as a demonstrated commitment to working effectively from a multicultural orientation with a diverse college population, proficiency providing campus outreach presentations, and the ability to work collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team. Clinical Counselors also participate in the clinical supervision and training of undergraduate and masters level students.

Primary Responsibilities

Direct Clinical Service

  • Provides crisis counseling and conducts brief assessments with students.
  • Participates in the on-call crisis counselor rotation, providing crisis intervention during after-office hours.
  • Conducts intake interviews with students and completes the required clinical documentation via our electronic recordkeeping system.
  • Provides individual, couples, and group counseling to students on a scheduled basis or through crisis intervention.
  • Utilizes diagnostic assessment procedures and psychometric methods to facilitate psychotherapy as needed.
  • Conducts evaluation and assessment for a range of clinical issues and diagnostic concerns.
  • Provides outreach workshops and lectures to campus community.
  • Provides clinical services to diverse client populations and whose clinical work, supervision, and community intervention is infused with ethical and multicultural competency and who demonstrates clear interest and commitment to all dimensions of diversity.

Supportive Duties

  • Maintains up-to-date clinical documentation via an electronic recordkeeping system.
  • Consults with supervisors and staff as needed.
  • Acts as a campus resource on mental health and represents Counseling and Disability Services in the university community.
  • Acts as a liaison between client and campus or community resources as needed.
  • Provides consultation to staff, faculty, and parents seeking assistance with troubled students or those with serious mental health issues.
  • Attends training seminars, staff meetings and supervision on a weekly basis and in a prompt manner.
  • Represents the department and division at public relations events as requested.
  • Interacts with staff and students in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Participates in supervision and training with an openness to learning and receiving feedback.
  • Performs additional job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimal Qualification and Experience Requirements

  • Masters or Doctoral degree in a mental health related field (Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology).
  • Three years of experience working with diverse populations including college age students.

  • Ability to receive and utilize constructive feedback regarding performance, presentation and relationships with others.
  • Ability to be both consistent and flexible as circumstances warrant.
  • Ability to effectively weigh and evaluate personal needs, client needs, and the aims and policies of the agency and to respond and negotiate these competing needs as appropriate.
  • Ability to remain calm and supportive in psychological emergencies and/or crises when provided with appropriate supervision and direction.
  • An enhanced level of self-awareness as to how he or relates to others and an ability to effectively modulate this personal style as conditions warrant.
  • Ability to communicate via computer email.
  • Must possess some knowledge of Disability Etiquette and the ADA law. Must understand Confidentiality FERPA, HIPPA and child abuse mandating reporting laws.
  • Possess good people skills, organization skills, communication skills, takes initiative, and has creativity.

License

  • Active full clinical license in the individuals professional discipline in the State of Hawaii or licensure within six months of hire is required.

Approximate starting hourly rate: $27.00 - $30.00. The wage offered could be above or below range based on education and experience as it relates to the job description.
