The Richmond Behavioral Health Authority is seeking a Lead Behavioral Health Tech at our WRTC to provide general supervision of PRN Behavioral Health Technician staff and unit supervision in the absence of the Program Manager and/or Supervisor. Performs safe and effective human support work maintaining the safety of clients, monitoring clients with special needs, coordinating meal service and delivery, facilitating educational groups, teaching coping skills, overseeing clients performance of ADLs, encouraging clients to adhere to treatment goals, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Unit Supervisor and/or Manager. Exercises unit shift supervision and direct supervisory responsibility over the PRN staff.
Essential Functions
Provides staff supervision and completes annual evaluations. Directs and coordinates program activities and enforces program policies and procedures.
Responds to emergencies and assists in crisis intervention.
Manages unit supplies.
Ensures adequate unit staffing.
Monitors and maintains unit safety; monitors clients and assists them with their activities of daily living; monitors eating/sleeping and hygiene habits.
Facilitates and assists with the development of program groups and completes group documentation and shift documentation per shift.
Performs direct client service duties by meeting and greeting clients upon arrival to the unit and taking an inventory to check for contraband; ensures beds are made and orients client to the unit.
Ensures laundry duties for unit and client laundry is done; assigns staff to assist clients with special needs & serve meals.
Engages and provides verbal support for clients face to face constantly and completes progress notes for every engagement.
Coordinates discharges in full consultation with the case management team.
Completes shift reports.
Performs clerical duties as needed.
Attends meetings, trainings and seminars as assigned.
Position RequirementsEducation and Experience
Minimum of a bachelors degree in any field required; current enrollment may be considered for those professionals who are registered as a QMHP-T with the Virginia Board of Counseling.
Must be registered as a QMHP or QMHP-T with the Virginia Board of Counseling or hold a graduate degree and meet licensure eligibility.

Experience with individuals with mental health, behavioral challenges, substance use disorders and intellectual/developmental disabilities is essential.
Familiarity with community based behavioral healthcare services preferred.
Special Requirements
Valid Virginia drivers license.
Current CPR and First Aid certification (or obtained during orientation).
Training in verbal de-escalation and non-violent crisis intervention (or obtained during orientation).
Ability to work weekends, variable shifts and holidays.
Basic typing and computer skills.
