Job Description

This position exists to develop and support therapeutic counseling services and programs on the SMSU campus. Will be assigned to the following areas: individual/group therapy, crisis intervention, case consultation, and clear documentation and written reports. Performs therapeutic counseling responsibilities and applies knowledge and expertise in best practice application, theory, and interventions to the students of SMSU.

This position will develop and implement mental health outreach and education for campus programs in collaboration with other departments. Participate in university events, serve on committees, actively engage in professional development, attend conferences, sit on panels, provide tabling, classroom presentations, and other events representing the counseling office. After hour responsibilities may be required on a limited basis.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or social science discipline or equivalent experience providing counseling services.

  • Licensed as LP, LPCC, LMFT, or LISCW

  • Knowledge of applied treatment and educational techniques for antisocial behavioral patterns, psychological/psychiatric problems, educational/vocational deficits and interpersonal relationship problems sufficient to treat compulsive and addictive problems and for sexually assaultive behavior.

  • Skilled in oral and written communication and presentation sufficient to document individual responses to treatment techniques and program progress.

  • Skilled in observation, analysis and behavioral intervention.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and to develop physical and verbal skills sufficient to control and direct offenders/clients.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or related field

  • Experience working with a college student population

  • Experience conducting educational sessions and in-service trainings on mental health topics.
