Position Summary

The Mental Health Counselor at The Hill School will offer assessments, clinical counseling, support, and guidance to students. Operating within the Counseling Center, the Mental Health Counselor will provide personalized counseling to students with the aim of proactively influencing mental health and promoting overall wellness. It is ideal for mental health counselors to live within a 30-minute drive of The Hill School campus due to on-call responsibilities. While most hours will fall within the standard school day, this position may also include some nontraditional hours such as later afternoons, evenings, or occasional weekends to best support and meet the needs of our students.

Responsibilities

Primary focus of the Mental Health Counselor includes but is not limited to the following:?

  • Perform psychosocial assessments, recommend treatment based on assessment outcomes, and create personalized treatment plans addressing identified needs, with tailored goals, methods, and techniques.
  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling.
  • Plan and deliver prevention education lessons promoting resiliency, reducing mental health disorders and substance abuse, and enhancing overall wellbeing to students, faculty, and parents.
  • Participate in weekly clinical supervision with the counseling team.
  • Collaborate with school faculty and staff to support students' academic and social-emotional well-being.
  • Adhere to confidentiality and clinical recordkeeping requirements of the counseling program while balancing the need to collaborate with key stakeholders as supported by the School's Authorization to Treat and Share Health Information.
  • Cover one night per week of on-call duties, and one weekend per month, when school is in session (Friday at 4:30 pm to Monday at 8:30 am) or as otherwise assigned by the Director of Counseling. This may require having to physically come to the school to meet with or supervise a student.
  • During on-call shifts, you will be required to attend Students Advocating for Mental Health (SAMH) events or other counseling events outside of work hours. These are spread throughout the year, and typically average twice per year per mental health counselor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success and mission of the institution.

Qualifications

Ideally, a candidate should have at least five years of supervised post-graduate counseling experience working with an adolescent population. Experience and demonstrated success working with diverse student communities is preferred but not required. A Master's degree is required.

  • Licensed as an independent-level provider in the state of Pennsylvania, such as Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or those who have completed a Master's program and passed their state licensing board exam and are open to working under supervision to pursue licensure.
  • Specific credentialling in substance use assessment and treatment.
  • Previous work experience specifically in adolescent substance abuse treatment.
  • Excellent communication and delivery skills.
  • Competency with clinical record documentation and experience with electronic medical records.
  • Previous work experience teaching prevention topics in the classroom setting or in front of large groups for students, parents, and faculty.
  • Training in motivational interviewing techniques.
