To become a Psychiatric RN, one must complete a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) or an Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) and pass the NCLEX-RN exam to obtain a Registered Nurse (RN) license. Additional specialized training or certification in psychiatric-mental health nursing is highly recommended. Important skills required for this role include excellent communication and interpersonal skills, empathy, resilience, the ability to work under pressure, and a thorough understanding of mental health laws and ethics.
