A Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) plays an important role in the mental health industry by providing specialized care to patients with mental health disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression among others. To become a Psychiatric RN, one must complete a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) or an Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) and pass the NCLEX-RN exam to obtain a Registered Nurse (RN) license. Additional specialized training or certification in psychiatric-mental health nursing is highly recommended. Important skills required for this role include excellent communication and interpersonal skills, empathy, resilience, the ability to work under pressure, and a thorough understanding of mental health laws and ethics.
