Job Description
Position: School Psychologist
Evaluated by: Superintendent or their designee.
Job Description: The school psychologist works with preschool, elementary, middle, and high school students to ensure all students have behavioral and mental health support services needed to achieve their highest potential.
Qualifications: Certified or Licensed in the State of West Virginia as a School Psychologist.
Length of Employment: 220 Days
Salary: Salary based upon degree and experience on current salary schedule.
Responsibilities: The School Psychologists shall have the following responsibilities and duties:
To provide daily consult to either staff, parents/guardians, or outside agencies regarding specific students, programs (special or regular), policies, or procedures.
To assist with implementing federal, state, and local regulations relevant to the education of students identified as "at risk" or with special needs.
To collaborate with county-level directors and school-level administrators to implement a tiered system of support for behavioral, social, and emotional support to ensure a safe, supportive learning environment.
To provide education and training programs for students, administrators, and teachers/staff.
To utilize behavioral management models that increase student achievement outcomes.
To prepare letters for permission for testing, with attached rights, developmental history, and release forms as needed.
To consult with outside agencies or other schools concerning assessment data per student.
To attend eligibility and IEP meetings when necessary or by request.
To conduct manifestation determination meetings per request and specific students recommended for expulsion by principals.
To review special education records on students enrolling from in or out-of-county and advise schools on procedures.
To consult with contracted psychologists or diagnosticians concerning testing or behavior management.
To provide consultation, intervention (ex. counseling & social skills guidance), education facilitation, research, and program planning.
To provide psychological, psychoeducational, and behavioral, social, emotional assessments and interpret results.
To provide supervision of intern school psychologists and practicum students.
To consult with school principals to identify and resolve student issues, needs, and problems.
To consult and collaborate with teachers to support classroom engagement, management, and academic factors important for student success.
To provide short-term individual and small-group counseling/mental health support to students.
To provide professional development to teachers and staff regarding student academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
To be a member of the county-level Alternative Education Committee.
To attend expulsion hearings for all students.
To prepare the disciplinary evaluation reports to present at expulsion hearings for all students.
To oversee Threat and Risk Assessments for all students.
To collaborate with county-level directors and school-level administrators to coordinate West Virginia Senate Bill 199: Elementary Discipline.
To complete Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA).
To design Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
To collaborate with IEP and/or school-level teams to develop re-entry plans for the general education classroom.
To support the seven West Virginia Standards for Effective Schools.
To maintain appropriate certification, credentials, and licensure to practice in WV public schools.
To engage in on-going professional development training to enhance professional skills.
To order testing/evaluation supplies.
To attend special education team meetings.
To attend Section 504 meetings per request or offer consultation.
To complete and submit all special education paperwork in a timely manner as required by law, the West Virginia Department of Education, and/or the county Board of Education.
To report on the presence of any situation that may be harmful to the health and safety of the students and/or staff.
To supervise all students in accordance with the state, county, and school policies.
To participate in appropriate aspects of due process.
To be certified in the non-violent crisis intervention program used in the county.
To provide direct services for Medicaid billing.
To obtain and provide the non-violent crisis intervention program training used in the county
To maintain professional work habits
To perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education
