About the position:

Under the direction of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the Registered Behavior Technician is responsible for the implementation of behavior intervention plans developed by the IEP team, collecting data and conducting assessments.

Working conditions:

  • Classroom setting, may move from classroom to classroom to provide services.
  • Job involves sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to 35 pounds, carrying, reaching, grasping, bending, stooping, crouching, pushing and pulling.
  • Students may use challenging or offensive language toward staff and other students with potential to escalation to physical aggression.
  • Must be able to follow behavior intervention plans as directed by the BCBA or support team.

Position schedule:

Monday-Friday during the school day.

  • Perform tasks assigned by the BCBA/BCaBA Assist the Special Education Teacher, consistent with IEP goals, in lesson plan implementation; one-on-one & small group instruction; classroom management; student observation & assessment; and communication with parents and staff.
  • Collect data and report student progress.
  • Maintain accurate data collection records.
  • Communicate with staff and parents as instructed by the Special Education Teacher, IEP team and/or school administrator.
  • Implement, assess, and evaluate implementation of student intervention plans and programs; provide input and feedback to teachers, parents, other appropriate team members and the administration.
  • Implement positive behavior intervention systems.
  • Manage crisis intervention by maintaining a safe, classroom environment for the students.
  • Participate as a member of the education team.
  • May attend parent conferences and IEP meetings.
Required Qualifications:

  • Must be able to communicate using American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Must be able demonstrate cultural competency within a deaf and hard of hearing language rich environment.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Hold a valid Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential or be able to obtain the credential within 90 days of hire or alternative credential in the State of Washington as the Certified Behavior Technician in good standing.
  • Experience working with students with behavior or mental health issues.
  • Must be willing and able to work with parents/guardians to include direct communication as needed.
  • Must be able to maintain regular attendance during assigned work schedule.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience as a Registered Behavior Technician or Certified Behavior Technician working with deaf and hard of hearing student.
  • Training and/or experience in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention techniques.
  • Training and/or experience in implementation of positive behavior supports.
  • Training and/or experience in Collaborative Problem Solving.
  • Training in Cultural Competencies.
  • Training in trauma informed practices.
  • Training in functional behavior analysis.
  • Working knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) regulations and procedures.

This is a school year-based position and is not scheduled to work during annual school closures, which includes winter, spring, and summer break. This position does not receive spread pay and there is no guarantee of additional work opportunities during school closures. Employees may cash out accrued vacation leave during the school breaks.

Salary information:

This position is paid in accordance with the Washington General Government pay scale ( ) with 5% dual language pay.
